Best Practices Guide for Chairpersons & Members of Sanctions Committees
In order to develop a Best Practices Guide for chairpersons and members of UN sanctions committees, the Permanent Missions to the United Nations of Sweden, the Netherlands and Poland are organizing consultation meetings for the following stakeholders:
H.E. Mr.Carl Orrenius Skau, Alternate Representative to the Security Council of Sweden held consultations on 13 November 2018 with former, current and future chairpersons of sanctions committees. A Briefing Paper for former and current chairpersons guided the event that was intended to encourage participants’ comments, suggestions and substantive proposals for the Guide.
Nicolas Fierens Gevaert from the Permanent Mission of Belgium to the United Nations held consultations on 16 November 2018 with former and current member states of sanctions committees. A Briefing Paper for former and current members of sanctions committees guided the event that was intended to encourage participants’ comments, suggestions and substantive proposals for the Guide.
H.E. Ms. Joanna Wronecka, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations held consultations on 6 December 2018 with former and current member states affected by sanctions. A Briefing Paper framed the event thematically and to encourage the participants’ comments, suggestions and substantive proposals for the Guide. Additionally, a questionnaire was distributed to focus the discussion further on key concerns of states to which sanctions are applied or those that are strongly affected by sanctions on neighboring states.
